The Keslar Home

So, this painting was done as a birthday present for my sister. It is copied from a photo of her home in Clermont, Indiana. It is very picteresque with a large yard and tons of trees. And, since their house was white, I thought to make it pop amongst a background of fall foliage. Notice the little bunny in the front yard - that was a tribute to Letha and Mark's dogs, Berkeley and Kendall, who love to chase and bark at those little furballs!

A Gloomy Scene

So, this was some fun with pen and watercolor together. I really like how the 'gloomy' clouds turned out....

Heavenly Comet

This was an excersize on myself to minimize the amount of brush strokes seen in a watercolor picture. I did that by first watering down the paper all over, and then adding in color. The drenching of paper allowed the actual color to not dry as quickly, thus minimizing brush-strokes.

Summer Twilight

Here is picture of my vision of summer twilight, complete with lightning bugs. Inspiration came from a conversation I had with Dad about lightning bugs. He asked me if there were lightning bugs here in LA. Of course there isn't, because of the light pollution. But, back home the whole night lights up!

Flowers on Mirror

Another watercolor to add to my collection. I must be in some sort of watercolor phase, I just can't get enough.

A Play with Bubbles

Last night, as I was laying in bed to go to sleep, I couldn't help but wonder at lines and color use in a watercolor painting. What if the subject was something like bubbles, where there is an explosion of color?
So, I got back up and worked, to my pleasure, for a few hours on this piece. It was nice to achieve the effect of the bubbles with pastel watercolors, and then go into the background with more earth tones.
I also experimented with making the background also an explosion of color, but a different kind, so the colorful ballons still pop out at you --- no pun intended!
This painting was achieved by watercolor and pastels.

MonsterClaw

This guy started out as a shape doodle, but then I just couldn't stop at the shape. I kept adding more colors and lines. And soon, this horned, clawed creature emerged. I used color pencil, watercolor and pastels to achieve the desired look.

"Nature Prevails"

This oil painting is a totally fictional place. I absolutely adore jacaranda trees, and thought it might be interesting to make the tree grow out of a place that you would'nt expect. Life will overcome. The most challenging aspect of this piece was the cliffsides, but I'm very proud of how they turned out. Enjoy!

Seymour

Well, my latest achievement. Seymour was a commissioned painting for a birthday present. He was done in oils, and took about two and a half weeks to finish.
I incorporated the colors of colts blue and IU red, as the person I painted if for loved those colors.

Under Construction

This is the current piece that I am working on. First, the 'framework' came to me. Now I am playing around with reflections, which is real?
This piece is not a commission. It is for sale.
